ABOUT ME
My name is Stuart Holmes, I am a professional photographer based in Keswick in the English Lake District. My preferred subject matter is landscape and adventure sports. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you are looking for a photographer to document your expedition to Greenland or Antarctica, anywhere Himalayan, South America, Vanuatu or most places really!
I was brought up and have lived most of my life around Keswick in the English Lake District. The fells, valleys and lakes provide the perfect adventure playground. For a landscape photographer it's a dream place too, where the light is forever changing and the seasons offer dramatically different colours and conditions. Have a look at my Lake District galleries to get an idea.
I was one of the founding directors of fotoVUE, a publishing company producing the best photo-location guidebooks in and of the known universe. The books are written and photographed by the local experts who guide you to some of the most interesting and inspiring places in their area. They are packed full of stunning photographs, offer technical advice on how to take the best photographs and tell you when are the best times to visit. My second edition of Photographing the Lake District will be available from December 2021. Use discount code FVFV on the fotoVUE website for 15% discount on all books.
Alongside Ian Francis and Bruce Yardley, I have also recently collaborated on The Lake District: Landscape and Geology which will be published by Crowood Press in February 2022. Pre-orders are now available on Amazon. Have a look at our companion website for more details: www.lakedistrictgeology.co.uk
I enjoy traveling and have been lucky enough to have visited many different countries for both work and my own adventures with friends. Mountains are typically the common thread in my trips, have a look at the galleries in the Adventure section in the top menu. There are lots of galleries from around the world in Work and Play.
Before Covid times I also worked as a guide for Wild Photography Holidays and have lead photo workshops in Iceland, Norway and Greenland. Have a look at the galleries for these amazing locations here.
